WOMEN are all set to amplify their voices at the inaugural Women in Science, Innovation, and Technology conference scheduled to be held in Harare next week. The event aims to contribute to the national development agenda, aligning with Vision 2030.

President Emerson Mnangagwa’s second republic promulgated Vision 2030 as a development agenda, urging women to heed the challenge and contribute meaningfully to the country’s development. In preparation, women will convene at a local hotel to discuss ways to amplify their voices in this development trajectory.

The conference, organized by Elevate Trust, will be the first of its kind in Zimbabwe. Women from all fields, including mining, are expected to attend this two to three-day event, which will bring together the best minds under one roof.

In an interview with ZiMining ahead of the conference, Elevate Trust Director Sicelo Dube expressed the women’s enthusiasm to contribute significantly to the country’s development. She emphasised the importance of unity among women in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, research, and innovation.

“This conference is bringing together women in science, technology, engineering, math, research, and innovation,” Dube explained. “No one can do it on their own; we need to work together. Let’s meet together, celebrate our successes, and collaborate. We want our voices together to be amplified so that we contribute as women to sustainable development goals and Vision 2030.”

As affectionately known as the STEM Lady, Dube highlighted the conference’s aim to empower women in science. “The conference is to bring all women in science together to let the world know that science pays,” she said. “Those who are getting into science, those who have just graduated, they are going to be empowered, inspired, and learn more about what science can do.”

Higher and Tertiary Education, Science, Innovation, and Technology Development Minister Amon Murwira, along with other high-profile women in leadership positions such as Securico Security Managing Director Dr. Devine Ndhlukula will grace the conference.

Also in attendance will be Organisation of Women in Science for the Developing World Director Sarudzai Muyambo, and Harare Institute of Technology Dean of Students Ms. Sarafina Mudavanhu
