THE Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamond Company (ZCDC), an ISO-certified diamond producer, has reaffirmed its dedication to environmental protection, employee safety, and community welfare as it pursues operational excellence in its journey to become a world-class operation.
Commitment to Safety and Wellness
ZCDC is proud to have achieved over 4 million fatality-free shifts and zero occupational-related illnesses since 2016. This milestone is more than a statistic—it’s a testament to the company’s dedication to protecting the lives of its employees.

Zero Harm and Operational Excellence
ZCDC’s commitment extends beyond safety. It aims to create long-term value for employees and the community through a comprehensive wellness programme. The company’s workplace safety and wellness initiatives are integral to its journey toward achieving global recognition.
“As a responsible organisation, we adhere to IRMA standards and focus on creating lasting value for the community. Our efforts to protect our workforce and the environment speak to our long-term vision,” ZCDC’s Corporate Affairs Executive, Sugar Chagonda, said.
Environmental Rehabilitation Initiatives
In its pursuit of environmentally friendly mining, ZCDC has rehabilitated 50 hectares of previously mined land. This reclaimed land is now being used for agriculture, benefiting the local community.
ZCDC’s innovative post-environmental rehabilitation model includes planting 3,580 indigenous trees and restoring nearly 50 hectares of once barren land. These efforts have turned wastelands into productive areas, supporting sustainable development in the region.
“We take pride in our environmental stewardship. Our goal is to leave a positive, lasting impact on the land we mine, and our rehabilitation projects are proof of that,” said Chagonda.
Transforming the Community through Empowerment
ZCDC’s role in the community extends beyond environmental efforts. The company has paid a US$1.2 million dividend to the Chiadzwa Community Share Ownership Scheme, which finances critical development projects for people living near the mine.
“Our operations align with the theme of building prosperity together. Through our work, we are transforming lives in Chiadzwa,” Chagonda added.
The company has also upgraded local infrastructure, including road systems and dust suppression technology, to ensure safer, cleaner living conditions for the community.

As ZCDC continues its journey of responsible mining, its impact on both the environment and the community grows. Through a focus on safety, environmental rehabilitation, and community empowerment, ZCDC is setting the standard for sustainable diamond mining in Zimbabwe.
The diamond giant’s return to the Zimbabwe Agricultural Show this year highlights the transformative role that diamonds play in Chiadzwa. ZCDC’s state-of-the-art stand at the event showcased its mining operations and ongoing commitment to empowering the local community.
“Through diamonds, we are building a future where prosperity is shared. Our success story is one of commitment to the people and the environment,” Chagonda said.
