Zimbabwe Miners Federation (ZMF) president Ms Henrietta Rushwaya took a swipe at men who undermine women saying those that were fighting her were instead fighting against all women in the mining sector.
Speaking during the Small scale miners conference at the Mine Entra held at the Zimbabwe International Exhibition Centre in Bulawayo, Ms Rushwaya castigated all men who took advantage of women to manipulate them.
She said that fighting her was tantamount to fighting all women she represents in the ZMF.
“All those men that are fighting me are not fighting Henrietta but are fighting all these women (in mining).
“All the male folks who have been undermining all women folks pasi nemi (down with you). Hatidi anababa vanodzinyirira anaamai (we don’t want male people who undermine women.
“I think I have made my point clear that fighting me is just fighting the women that I represent,” she said.
The ZMF boss said no amount of manipulation by men can dampen her spirit to represent miners, particularly women in mining.
She smoked a peace pipe saying that even though women have suffered a lot in the hands of these men, peace was the only solution to healing.
“Today I’m preaching the gospel of peace and as a mother I say peace as the only way to achieve our goals. As miners, let us not fight each other. Let us be united,” she said.
