One of the best gold mines in the country, Radnor Mine is committed to protect the environment and has roped in personnel from the Environmental Management Agency to have a practical appreciation of their gold trapping process.

The Makaha-based gold mine has the biggest gold trapping plant in the country.

ZimCN Investments Senior Partner Tapuwa Chipembere told ZiMining that Radnor Mine prioritises protection of the environment and the community they operate from.

“The mining methods that we are using are very good for the environment and good for the community.

We brought in guys from EMA to learn from our process so that when they implement the laws they can have a better understanding of the whole process of heap leaching,” he said.

Chipembere said hard work has paid for Radnor mine to roll out one of the biggest leaching plants in the country.

“The mine is massive, what sets us above other mines is that we are doing a [process called heap leaching.

“We process 10 000tonnes a day of gold ore, which sets us as the biggest heap leaching mine in Zimbabwe.

“Our extraction plant does 600tonnes a day and does close to 93% extraction of gold. It is modern that is there and environmentally-friendly,” he said.

Chipembere said it was the crusher plant that has set the bar high for Radnor mine as the one of the best in the country.

“The biggest achievement at the mine is the crusher plant which is set to be one of the biggest (plant) in Zimbabwe. It crushes 10 000tonnes f ore a day and we are proud of it,” he said.

Chipembere said hard work and determination have brought impressive results from Radnor mine.

“Radnor is surely one of the biggest (gold) mine in Zimbabwe, machinery wise.

We have 40 dump trucks working 24 hours a day with a support of 90 drivers.

“We also have a compliment of 11 excavators to increase productivity feeding the mine with ore,” he said.
