The Engineering Iron and Steel Association of Zimbabwe is set to host the inaugural Labour Law workshop next month that will equip participants with essential information about the rights and responsibilities of both employers and employees in the sector to ensure compliance with relevant legislation.
The workshop, first of its kind in the country, is designed to provide participants with a deep understanding of the legal framework governing employment relationships.
Respected legal practitioners Selby Hwacha, partner at Dube-Manikai-Hwacha legal Practitioners and head employment and Litigation Law, Advocate Benjamin Magogo, and labour expert Taurai Mrewa will present on various legal issues.
In a statement, the Engineering Ironn and Steel Association of Zimbabwe said the workshop will offer value for money to participants as it will explore a wide range of topics related to Labour law.
‘The workshop will explore a wide range of topics and issues related to the labour law especially given the opportunities and challenges taking place in the Zimbabwean labour market.
‘Participants will obtain practical incites from labour law experts and the workshop will provide a platform for questions and answers on day-to-day labour relations affairs experienced in different organizations’,’ part of the statement reads.
EISAZ urged business leaders and policy makers to take advantage of this workshop to upgrade trends in labour law.
‘This is an opportunity for captains of industry, policy makers, human resources practitioners, legal practitioners, and the academia to share knowledge and exchange information and updates from across various sectors of the economy and promote more meaningful engagement amongst workshop participants.’
Some of the issues to be discussed include, the impact of the April 2024 Monetary Policy Statement on contracts of employment, practical insights on labour dispute handling post promulgation of labour Amendment Act No. 11 of 2023 and a review of the Zimbabwe Labour Relations environment, October 2023 t0 April 2024.
