Lack of sufficient transport for worlers has been exposed at a chinese owned Anjin mine following the death of a security guard who fell from a moving dump truck, ZiMining can reveal.

Although details of the accident are still sketchy, ZiMining is reliably informed that a security guard died on the spot after splipping off a moving dump truck on way to work.
The Zimbabwe Diamond and Allied Mineral Workers Union (ZDAMWU) confirmed the death.
In a statement, ZDAMWU blasted Anjin for not prioritising employee health and safety issues.
“ZDAMWU is outraged by the avoidable death of an Anjin Investments security guard Tafadzwa Makwanya.
“Makwanya on Wednesday evening was on his way to work when he slipped and fell off a moving dump truck which he and other Anjin employees were using as transport to their work station.
“On numerous occasions, we have condemned the poor mode of transport that is used by Anjin to ferry workers to and from work,” ZDAMWU General Secretary Justice Chinhema said.
Dump trucks are heavy vehicles that are mostly used at mines for transporting munes ore. They do not have a facility for ferrying passengers at the back
Chinhema said they have raised the issue of health and safety with Anjin management prior to this incident, but the pleas to.improve employee transport system has fallen on deaf ears.
“ZDAMWU has been making several calls to management to improve the transport system at the mine but our pleas have been falling on deaf ears. “Ever since Anjin commenced operations, serious concerns have been raised about the worker’s safety especially on the equipment which they use,” he said.
Chinhema urged mining firms to prioritise the safety of its emoyees and observe the country’s laws.
“To prevent similar accidents in the future, there is a need to observe safety protocols at workplaces according to the Labour Act, the Constitution, and other supporting acts.
“Regular safety meetings at workplaces, proper training on safety procedures, and ensuring that all vehicles are roadworthy and equipped with necessary safety features are essential steps including banning the use of trucks as the mode of transport for workers to and from work.
“Additionally, companies should prioritize the safety of their employees by providing appropriate transportation and enforcing strict safety regulations,” he said.
Chinhema said companies that flout health and safety protocols should be fined heavily by government departments.
