THE recent promotion of CUMA Academy into the ZIFA Northern Region Division One Soccer League has sparked excitement in the Golden Valley camp as the team expects Rimuka stadium to come alive, once again, when the two teams clash for honours and bragging rights in a Kadoma derby, a feat last experienced before Cam and Motor were relegated to division two.
Golden Valley is now under the guidance of former Dynamos midfielder, Leo Kurauzvione, who took over from Ignatius Kapitapita. Kapitapita was in charge of the team last season, but was shown the exit door after he failed to meet the executive’sdifficult targets Kurauzvione believes his team -sponsored by Golden Valley Gold Mine- will do well this season. The Golden Valley Gold Mine, an underground mining operation, and through its corporate social responsibility programs, sponsors several sports such as football and athletics.Last year, for most part of the first half season, Golden Valley was in the race for promotion, but the team later began dropping points. It is thought Golden Valley lost out their chance to be promoted owing to backroom squabbles. However, Kurauzvione, who has spent more than seven years with the team, said he will turn around the club’s fortunes.
